In my own words:: "My father is an alcoholic and has been ever since I can remember. I saw my mother almost die in front of me when I was only seven years old. All I can remember of my childhood is hurt, yelling and sheer embarrassment. My mom stayed with my father until I was ten. Today, she and I are best friends. Since my parents' divorce, I've gone to see my dad just three times - I am now 20. I feel as though I shouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing the daughter he gave up for the bottle. I was with the same man for seven years, since I was twelve. We broke up two years ago. Since then, I have been with a lot of men and now regret it immensely. But I really didn't care what happened to me. I recently slit my wrist because I thought I had nothing to live for. This new work with NAD Therapy is very exciting and I think is right on target. It is indeed an energy-metabolic-deficiency (EMD) because in the absence of this coenzyme cycle almost all the reactions in the body run down... I congratulate Theo Verwey and his colleagues for this remarkable advance in using this concept and in using a simple test, the ratio of pyruvate to lactate as a diagnostic measure, to indicate the dose, duration of treatment etc.

The ratio of lactate to pyruvate reflects the NAD/NADH ratio and is useful in distinguishing primary defects. Measured enzymatically in blood or CSF as an index of defects of glucose oxidation (fed state) or gluconeogenesis (fasted).
